HMRC announce surprise changes to MTD that will impact even more taxpayers

Up to 250,000 more taxpayers will be included in the recent changes to Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD-IT). The recent amendments mean taxpayers earning between £20-30,000 per year, will now be included in the initiative at some point.

MTD will initially apply to taxpayers with income from trading and property over £50,000 per year from April 2026. The second section of taxpayers to be affected will be those with an income between £30,000 and £49,999 by April 2027.

Those individuals earning less than £30,000 will be affected in April 2027 or April 2028.
