HMRC urge agents to finalise provisional self-assessment figures

Time is running out for agents to submit the finalised figures for self-assessments in the tax year 2022/23.

Failure to submit the figures will result in a letter from HMRC that will agree a timeframe to submit the actual figures. The one-to-many letter is not a formal enquiry or a compliance check. They are designed to influence behaviour and encourage agents or taxpayers to comply with tax obligations. However, HMRC could charge a penalty in this instance if an error is found in the tax return and the agent has not corrected it.
